LET’S BE FRIENDS! Join me each week for a chat on the porch! It will be delivered to your inbox every Tuesday — conversation, illustrations, and inspiration through the Word of God.

letter of the week - Welcome to the Neighborhood!

Sesame Street was a mainstay for me during my childhood in the 1970s. I would fantasize about living in this picture-perfect neighborhood surrounded by Big Bird, Bert & Ernie, and Oscar the Grouch. Laughter and learning were the genius to keep viewers' attention. Each show educated young minds by introducing letters, numbers, and character traits. Hence… this episode brought to you by the letter ____.

While most of our lives are not as dreamy with sunny days and happy endings, God employs specific campaigns to cultivate themes within our personal stories. Some are subtle and some are audacious. Think the letter “e” or the letter “Q”.

Hi, I'm Janelle and many of my favorite people call me J. Throughout my 50-something years, I have used the weight of words and writing as an escape and as an anchor — depending on the season. God crashed into my mess-of-a-world as a young adult and began to allure my heart with His words.

As a broken girl, dirty daughter, self-sabotaging woman, and committed rebel, Jesus began the process of transforming my heart and mind (and we're still in it) through the power of His voice in the Bible.

[we all, who with unveiled faces reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.]
2 Corinthians 3v18

Consider this your personal invitation to the neighborhood. A place where Jesus intersects everything. A porch chat, a table conversation, or a deep dive brimming with promise and potential. From Genesis to Revelation we have the opportunity to learn, linger, and love the Word of God no matter what street we reside on.

Each week I'll share a story, a scripture, and an assignment around God's word, which will be sponsored by the letter of the week.
